Women's Lacrosse Bests Goucher on the Road

BALTIMORE, Md. - Bridgewater women's lacrosse bested Goucher, 7-1 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 7, Goucher (GOU) 1

Records: BCE (2-0), GOU (0-2)

How It Happened

  • The six unanswered goals from the Eagles became a powerful force to break. The offense began in the first quarter with the opening goal by Jenna Entsminger at the 6:45 mark assisted by Paige Overeem. The first of many cards was dealt late in the first committed by Goucher. The Eagles were unable to pounce on the man-up advantage leaving the first to stay at 1-0.

  • A shot by the Gophers went wide to start the second quarter and the Eagles faced an early yellow card, but the Gophers could not break through the rugged BCE defense. Instead, at the 7:15 mark, BCE went up another goal with a strong attack to ring in a goal by Kena Gresham. The Eagles quickly countered on a ground ball pickup in open field and Caris Cianelli wailed back to launch the third goal of the day in the back of the net. The first half remained all Bridgewater at 3-0.

  •  Bridgewater continued to take advantage of the down-field attacks controlling possessions aggressively. Another yellow card was dealt, this time to Goucher. BCE executed on the man-up advantage with the fourth goal knocked in by Kyla Fricks. Despite the continued aggressiveness and three additional cards dealt to the Eagles, Goucher had nothing to show for it.

  • A flurry of goals came from BCE's side including one right out of the gate in the final quarter. Overeem dialed in the free position attempt for the fifth goal on the day. Cianelli followed that up with another goal of her own in yet another free position attempt. The Eagles wrapped up the scoring run for the seventh goal of the game by Miranda Coleman. GOU squeezed in a goal late in the fourth, but the Eagles had their way in the 7-1 final.

Game Notes

  • Caris Cianelli led the way in scoring with two goals on three shots.

  • Although Goucher had the edge in shots and forcing turnovers, Bridgewater saved 16 shots and 16 ground balls, staying diligent defensively and outmatching the Gophers.

  • Game action has remained aggressive in two games, as the Eagles again saw 11 cards out of 16 total penalties.
