Women's Soccer Takes Down Maroons at Home

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's soccer team took down Roanoke 4-0 Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 2-2 in ODAC play this season.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater 4, Roanoke 0

Records: Bridgewater (8-3, 2-2 ODAC), Roanoke (5-6-1, 2-2 ODAC)

The Basics

  • Bridgewater took the action to the Roanoke defensive half early. Cassandra Villafan had the first shot attempt of the match, but it was stopped by RC's Grace Suchy.

  • At the 6:02 mark, Lyric Birkley sent a throw in opportunity into the box. The pass missed a crowd of black and white jerseys and found the foot of Laura Narby. Narby redirected the throw in past the RC keeper and found the back of the net.

  • The Eagles kept the pressure on the Roanoke back line, as King, Birkley, and Narby each ripped off shots, but to no avail. Narby found herself with an easy opportunity to score in the 21st minute, but was called offsides. Birkley and Narby put shots on target, but both were stopped by Suchy.

  • In the 27th minute, BC had a set piece opportunity. Birkley threw the ball to Narby near the box. Narby sent a cross to Kendall Garza, who found nylon.

  • A minute later, Sophia Phillips stole the ball from a Roanoke defender. Suchy came out the box to defend, but Phillips was able to score to increase the BC lead to 3-0.

  • In the second half, Narby and Birkley put up shots, but their attempts were off target. RC's Rebecca Carr and Madalyn Szoke ripped shots of their own, but were unable to put them on target.

  • In the 76th minute, Brianna Curro dribbled her way past a Roanoke defender and took a shot from range. Curro found the back of the net to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead.

Match Notes
