Box Score ASHLAND, Va. - The Bridgewater College field hockey team dropped a shootout thriller to Randolph-Macon 3-2 on Wednesday evening on the road.

How It Happened

BC had the game's first chance as Mollie Best fired a shot that was turned away. BC earned a penalty corner off the chance and managed a shot as Jade Buckles' offering met the same fate. Randolph-Macon flipped the field, and Ashley Nau turned away the Yellow Jackets' first chance of the night. RMC managed a penalty corner after the chance, but no shot reached the target. Bridgewater countered with shots from best, Buckles and Kylie Ambereger, but all of their attempts failed to reach the target. Each side managed a shot on target late in the game, but a defensive save by Riley Chandler for the Eagels kept the game scoreless after one frame.

Bridgewater opened the second frame in a big way as Amberger found Autumn Just and she buried her shot to take a 1-0 lead 95 seconds into the second quarter. RMC tried to respond with a series of shots, but the Eagles' defense held strong and blocked the chances as they did not reach Nau. The home side had two more opportunities to reply, but both chances were blocked to keep it a 1-0 BC edge at the break.

RMC opened the second half on the front foot. with a pair of shots reaching the target, but saves by Madalyn Miller maintained the lead. The Yellow Jackets continued to dominate the tempo in the third frame and kept knocking on the door before they finally broke through in the final 90 seconds of the stanza. A penalty corner led to the game-tying goal from Breea Dresler on the back post. The game entered the fourth quarter knotted at 1-1.
- Randolph-Macon again opened the fourth quarter by dominating the possession, but Kiley Parker had a clean look for the Eagles that was swept away by one of the RMC defenders. The Yellow Jackets flipped the field again and took the lead on the back end of another penalty corner as Samantha Major made it 2-1 for the home team midway through the fourth. BC flipped the script late with a push for offense. The final thirty seconds were hectic, but it paid off for BC as Lexi Francis scooped up the rebound off of a penalty corner shot and buried it to tie the game with 23 seconds to play. With her tally, the game went to overtime.

BC flipped the field and had a pair of penalty corners, but Francis and Carynn Klingler had their shots turned away. Each team had one more solid chance late in the period, but neither put a shot on target to send the game to another overtime period.
- The Eagles had the first chance of the second overtime session, but Buckels had her chance turned aside. RMC replied with one of its own, but Miller made the save. It was BC with the last chance in the second overtime stanza, but Riley Chandler's shot was saved to extend the game to a shootout.
- RMC started the shootout and Miller made a save. Chandler took BC's first attempt, and her shot turned away as well. RMC regrouped as the Yellow Jackets' next attempt found the back of the net off a rebound. Valentina Amborgi-Torres stood tall in her crease and made the next save on Buckles. RMC cashed in on its next attempt, putting the pressure on Amberger. Amberger could not bury her chance, and neither did the next Yellow Jacket. It came down to Mollie Best to try and extend the game, but her first attempt was stopped, and the rebound was knocked away to secure the Yellow Jacket victory.
