Eagles Rolls Past EMU

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's basketball team rolled to a 67-33 victory over EMU on Wednesday night.

How It Happened
  • Aylin Humpherys got the Eagles on the board with a three-pointer, but EMU responded on the next trip down the floor. BC extended the lead to 6-2 after a free throw by Jay Garcia and a score by Jaden Alsberry, but a three-pointer by EMU cut the lead to a point. Garcia got BC back on the board with a layup and sparked the Eagles as they closed the final 4:45 of the quarter on an 11-1 run with scores from Garcia, Riley Corcoran, Asia Williams and Jaiden Polston to make it 17-6 after the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Royals knocked down a three-pointer to open the second quarter and cut the lead to eight as both teams struggled from the floor to start the quarter. Alsberry got the Eagles on the board off a dish from Reagan Maynard and it was all BC from that point forward. Bridgewater closed the final 6:07 of the quarter on a 14-0 run as Emu went scoreless for the final 7:48 of the half. India Dailey led the run with five points including the final score of the half to make it 31-9 at the break.
  • EMU made a free throw to start the half, but a 13-0 Bridgewater scoring run led by five points from Alsberry as a Rosemary Pierson three-pointer made it 46-10 with 4:14 to go in the quarter. The Royals got back on the board and were able to cut into the lead by the tune of a 12-4 run to cut it to 50-22 after three quarters.
  • The visitors got on the board first, but once again the Eagles responded with a 7-2 run with scores from Alsberry, Alexis Edmonds and Autumn Gentry to take a 33-point lead. The teams traded scores down the stretch as an Alsberry score closed the tallying to make it 67-33 with 90 seconds to play.
Match Notes
  • Alsberry led the Eagles with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go along with three blocks and two steals. Garcia tallied 11 points as she grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Corcoran led the facilitating with four assists and four steals.
  • Jakayla Johnson led EMU with 14 points including a pair of three-pointers.
  • Bridgewater shot 42.6% from the floor compared to 27.9% for EMU. The Eagles forced 29 turnovers in the victory and capitalized with 32 points off of turnovers compared to just five for the Royals.
