Daum Scores Twice to Lead Women's Soccer Past UMW

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team got back in the win column thanks to a pair of goals from Skyler Daum in a 2-1 victory over Mary Washington on Wednesday night.

How It Happened
  • Mary Washington had chances early, but its two early chances hit the post and missed high. UMW kept the pressure on and registered a shot on goal in the 23rd minute that was turned away by Riley Asiello in goal for BC. The home team registered another pair of shots, and both missed the target.
  • Daum had Bridgewater's first chance in the 30th minute as her shot was turned away by Adriana Thomson for UMW. Asiello stood tall in goal as she was able to make three more saves on three Mary Washington shots during the home stretch of the first half to send it to the half tied at 0-0.
  • BC struck in the 49th minute as Zoe Webster's long pass found Dau and she had a one-on-one with the keeper and did not disappoint as she buried the shot to put Bridgewater in front. Mary Washington kept knocking on the door with a shot wide, one blocked and another saved by Asiello. UMW finally broke through on a penalty kick as Eliza Franklin made her shot from in tight to tie the game 1-1 with 34 minutes to play.
  • Bridgewater wasted no time in responding as Sophia Phillips fired a shot that was saved by Adriana Thompson in net or UMW. The Eagles had a free kick in the 59th minute and Daum took it. The fifth-year senior shot off the kick and scored to put Bridgewater back in front at 2-1 with 30 minutes to go. Asiello continued to stand tall in her crease with a pir of saves right after the goal. UMW had one last effort in the 87th minute that was saved by Asiello again to secure the victory.

  • Daum registered her first goals of the season in the win. She also led BC with four shots including three on goal.
  • Asiello's impressive night came via nine saves in goal for Bridgewater in the first collegiate win of her career in goal. Thompson made a pair of saves for UMW.
  • Mary Washington held an 18-6 advantage in shots including a 10-5 edged in shots on goal.
