BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team fell to Guilford 7-2 on Saturday.
Guilford swept doubles matches but not without a valiant comeback effort by
Noah Hughes and
Matthew Leonard at the No. 2 slot. Guilford led 3-6 before storming back and forcing a tiebreak and falling 7-8(2).
The Quakers opened with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots before
Corey Beshoar regrouped at the No. 3 spot and dug deep for the second straight day. The rookie stormed in front with a 6-1 win in the opening set, but a 3-6 win by Tye Sasser forced a match tiebreak. Beshoar put on a clinic in the breaker as a 10-3 win pushed him to the victory at the No. 3 spot.
Gabe Elder battled at the No. 4 spot before falling 7-5, 4-6, 4-10.
Bryce Cline added a win at the No. 6 spot by a 6-4, 6-3 scoreline to round out the action.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday at Ferrum at 4 p.m.
