BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College baseball team split a Senior Day doubleheader with Guilford falling in the first game 3-0 then rebounding for a win in the second game 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- The game started out as a pitcher's duel as the Eagles' Joe Christopher and the Quakers' Marcello Ricigliano each were effective on the bump. Ashton Smith registered the first hit in the bottom of the second but was left stranded.
- GC led off the top of the third on the attack when Jordan Burrough hitting a homer run over the left field wall to plate the first run of the game. Christopher, unphased, rallied of three consecutive outs to get out of the inning.
- The top of the fourth inning saw Guilford extend its lead starting with Isaiah Hairston hitting a double down the first base line. A detrimental error from the BC defense allowed the Quakers to extend their lead to 2-0.
- The top of the sixth saw GC add its final run of the game when Aaron Williams stung a line drive deep enough to center field to get the sacrifice fly and make it 3-0.
- Bridgewater tried to string something together in the bottom of the seventh with Lucas Bauer driving a single through the left side, but it was to no avail as Guilford held the team in check.
- Both offenses were shut down near the final innings with Jared Peake and Brett Midkiff leading the way in relief for the Eagles.
- Brandan Hartman drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the ninth, but the damage had already been done as the Quakers would pull away with the 3-0 win.
GAME STATS
- Smith and Bauer led the offense each having a 1-for-3 day at the plate.
- Christopher had a good outing on the mound but was given the loss after going 7.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on just three hits while striking out five. Peake and Midkiff were effective in the later innings combining for 2.0 innings pitched giving up no runs.
- Hairston went 2-for-4 at the dish with one hit being a double. Burrough had the home run in the top of the third inning.
- Ricigliano pitched a complete game shut out allowing just two hits and one walk while racking up 10 strike outs.
Game Two
- Jeffrey Snider led off the bottom of the first clobbering a home run over the right field wall to start the scoring for BC.
- In the bottom of the second, Bridgewater came across for two more runs which was started when Bauer scurried down the first base line rushing the fielder into an error. Tristan Gordon continued the inning hitting a hard-hit ball through the left side. Snider powered in a double to left field warning track to make it 3-0.
- An error by the Eagles' defense allowed Chase Wade to scamper down to first base safely. With two outs. Ethan George slapped a two-run home run over the left field wall to cut the deficit to one, 3-2.
- Isaac Sumpter began the bottom of the fourth inning driving a single up the middle. Snider came up to the plate and knocked his second double of the afternoon to right center field. Nick Stavros got the bat going when he dropped a single down the third base line that stayed just fair allowing Sumpter to score.
- With runners on first and second in the bottom of the sixth, Hartman drove in the final run when he popped a single to center field scoring Snider.
- Three combined scoreless innings from Nick Griffin and Nick Harris led to BC maintaining the lead and come away with the victory 5-2.
GAME STATS
- Snider was dominate at the plate going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a home run and two doubles.
- Stavros and Hartman each had an RBI in the contest.
- Reid Long was effective in his start going 6.0 inning allowing two runs (none earned) on five hits with five strike outs.
- Nick Harris was awarded the save after pitching 2.0 innings allowing two hits and striking out two. Griffin was also effective in relief recording just an inning while not allowing anything.
- Jacob Ray took the loss after 4.0 innings of work allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits.
