HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Squirrels got on the board first in their half of the third when a fielder's choice from the allowed enough time for the runner to come home. MBU put up more offense together when a double to right field increased the score. A costly error from the Eagles' defense brought in the third and final run of the inning. Andrew Baugher came in for starter Jaden Isidro getting out of the inning forcing the batter to pop up to the short stop.
  • BC began the bottom of the third inning with Kyle Carlson singling through the 5-6 hole which then brought Nick Stavros to the plate who drew a walk. A wild pitch from Mary Baldwin advanced the runners into scoring position. Lucas Bauer sprinted down the first base line to rush the short stop into a throwing error putting Bridgewater within two, 3-1.
  • The Eagles got a two-out rally going in the bottom of the fourth with Camden Herron singling to the shortstop then moved up to scoring position after a balk from the Fighting Squirrels. Carlson came in clutch dropping in a double down the third base line allowing Herron to score. Stavros followed it up with a single through the left side to even the score at 3-3.
  • Baugher was effective through his second inning of work leaving MBU scoreless. BC took advantage of Mary Baldwin's new pitcher in the bottom of the fifth. Jeffrey Snider started the inning drawing a walk, then TJ Johnson hit a single to left field to put runners on first and second. Isaac Sumpter moved up the runners with a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher. Tristan Gordon capitalized on the opportunity hitting a hard ball to the short stop to bring Snider home and give the Eagles their first lead of the game 4-3.
  • BC increased its lead with a lengthy bottom of the sixth inning. Stavros turned a sacrifice situation into a hit laying down a nice bunt to third base. A pickoff attempt by the Fighting Squirrels turned into an error advancing both runners. Christian Harris drove a ball deep to center field to bring two runners home. With bases loaded, Johnson issued a shallow ball to center field increasing the Bridgewater lead. Sumpter stepped up to plate hitting a fly out deep enough for Snider to score on a tag up and make it a 9-3 ballgame.
  • The Eagles continued to tack on more offense in the bottom of the seventh when Stavros hit a two-run home run over the tall right field wall of the Bridgewater Baseball Field. Johnson did the inverse later in the frame ripping a line drive over the left field wall for a grand slam giving BC a 15-3 advantage.
  • MBU plated one more run in the top of the eighth when a single to the right side brought the runner in from second. Nick Griffin shut down the Mary Baldwin offense striking out the final batter. Due to darkness, the umpires called the game in the eighth inning giving Bridgewater the 15-4 win.
