BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College baseball team took down (RV) Mary Washington 5-4 in a thrilling game Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMW started off the scoring in the top of the third inning when Ty Lowe put a double into right center field to bring home the runner from third base. The away team capitalized on a BC error to continue the inning putting runners on first and third. Tommy Martinez then came home on a wild pitch thrown by the Eagles to go up 2-0 early.
- Jeffrey Snider started a two-out rally in the home half of the third inning drawing a walk. Nick Stavros stepped up to the plate and found real estate in center field getting on base for a single. With Snider in scoring position, Brandan Hartman reciprocated his teammate's at-bat delivering a single to center field and brought Snider home. Jonathan Sexton brought the tying run home when he dropped in a single to left field.
- Bridgewater took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the fourth inning which started with a TJ Johnson walk. Tristan Gordon hit a tough grounder to the second baseman to deliver a single and allow Johnson to score from second and put the Eagles up 3-2.
- Mary Washington came out swinging in the top of the sixth inning when Noah Roots popped a double over Hartman's head to put a runner in scoring position. Oliver Martin dropped in a double of his own trading places with Roots. Martin moved 90 feet from home plate after a wild pitch was delivered from BC. Ryan Schwartz did his job hitting into a sacrifice fly to right field giving the away team the lead 4-3. After back-to-back walks, head coach Ben Spotts decided to go to his bullpen bringing in Tyler Jones who got out of bases loaded situation striking out the last batter.
- Both pitching staffs were effective in the late inning with Bridgewater's Spencer Lloyd and Nick Griffin each recording one inning not allowing a run.
- BC mounted a monumental comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning with Gordon driving a ball to center field to pick up a two bagger. Snider clutched up dropping in a single to knot the score up at 4-4 and force extra innings.
- Both teams were rushed for time as the sun was setting fast. Bridgewater, in the bottom of the 11th inning, started another two-out rally. Stavros began the rally with a single to left field and then advanced third on a Hartman single to the opposite side. Luke Tomajczyk substituted in for Hartman adding a speed threat to the base path. Spencer Sigmon, who took over in the in the designated hitter spot, drew a walk to load the bases for the Eagles. Lucas Bauer strapped in and poked a single to right field to give BC the walk-off win 5-4.
GAME STATS
- Gordon and Hartman each had 3-for-4 hit days at the plate and each recorded an RBI. Hartman picked up two walks in the game to lead the team.
- Bauer secured the walk-off win on his lone hit of the day.
- Stavros plated to runs in the game which included the game winning run.
- Cole Keel picked up the win in the contest after coming on in relief in the top of the 11th inning and only allowing one hit. Bridgewater used a total of nine pitchers to help secure the win.
- Ty Lowe led the offense for Mary Washington going 3-for-6 at the dish with an RBI and a run scored. He was also given the loss after coming on to pitch in the bottom of the 11th.
