THE BASICS
Final Score: Washington and Lee 66, Bridgewater 54
Records: Bridgewater 18-8; Washington and Lee 25-2

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Any Abby Freeman jumper started the scoring in the game featuring the No. 1 and the No. 4 seed of the tournament as BC went out to a 2-0 lead inside the first minute of action. Alternating baskets finishing with a jumper from Jaden Alsberry kept BC in front 4-2 with 7:29 on the clock. The Generals went on a 15-4 run across the next three and a half minutes of play to take a 17-8 lead with 3:09 left in the first. Jay Garcia was true on a pair of free throws and Freeman drained a turnaround jumper to cut into the lead, 19-12, before an old-fashioned three-point play by Jaiden Polston made it a four-point game with 30 seconds left in the period. A Riley Corcoran layup in the waning seconds set the score at 19-17 after 10 minutes, in favor of the Generals.
  • Hanna Malik hit a three to start the second quarter for WLU as the top-seeded Generals went ahead 22-17 less than 30 seconds in. A quick 8-0 run capped by a Mary Schleusner layup, who reached the 1,000 career point plateau in the half, extended the lead to 10 points at 27-17 with 7:47 to go in the half. Garcia was able to stop the scoring run with a jumper, but the Generals came back with a basket of their own to maintain their lead. The two sides exchanged scores before a three from Riley Bryant pushed the WLU lead up to 11 points with 3:44 left in the half. Rosemary Pierson hit a free throw and came back with a triple to bring the Eagles within seven at 34-27, but the last six points of the half went the top seed's way as Washington and Lee held on to a 40-27 lead at halftime.
  • The Generals started the second half on a 14-2 run across the third quarter's first five minutes to bring the score to 54-29. An Alsberry bucket ended the scoring run to lead a stretch of six-straight points for the Eagles to cut into the deficit and set the score at 54-35 with 3:47 left in the third. The two teams exchanged scores through the final few minutes of the third as the Generals held on to a 56-37 lead going into the final quarter of regulation.
  • In the fourth quarter, the top-seeded Generals got their lead up to 20 points at 61-41 with just under nine minutes left before the Eagles went to work. A quick 7-0 run from BC, including five points from Abby Freeman allowed the Eagles to get the lead down to 13 points and force a Washington and Lee timeout. Each side exchanged scores throughout the next several minutes as Bridgewater stayed within 15 points of the Generals, but the comeback attempt fell short as the Generals held on for a 66-54 victory to head to the ODAC Championship game for a second straight year.
