HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hollins got on the board first before BC answered with an Alexis Edmonds make to even the score. Jaden Alsberry gave the Eagles a momentary lead before HU tied things back up at 4-4 midway through the opening quarter. Corcoran worked in transition taking a steal coast-to-coast to give Bridgewater the lead back and she followed with a driving layup a few moments later to give the Eagles the first two-possession lead of the ball game. Edmonds found Alsberry to make it a 6-0 BC run before Hollins ended the quarter on a short 5-3 run, broken up by a Kayla Ford three-pointer making 13-9 at the first intermission.
  • HU came out firing on all cylinders in the second quarter. Hollins opened the frame on an 8-0 run to take a 17-13 lead just over four minutes into the quarter. Corcoran stepped up with a make from downtown to make it just a one-point game. Both teams traded makes before an Aylin Humpherys three-ball gave BC the lead back at 21-19. Hollins was able to wrestle it back and pushed the lead back out to three before jumpers from Jay Garcia and Reagan Maynard put Bridgewater back in front. Hollins tied things with a make at the line inside of the final minute, but a Ford jumper near the horn gave BC a 27-25 advantage at the break.
  • The home school struck first in the third quarter to tie the game up before Corcoran did Corcoran things with six straight points for Bridgewater. Humpherys drilled a three-pointer to give the Eagles a nine-point lead before a long ball from Hollins stopped the aggressive momentum swing. HU pulled back to within five before Maynard knocked down a three-pointer to make it 39-31. Hollins would not go away as the home team worked an 8-0 run to tie the game before My'la Green scored to give BC the lead back. Corcoran followed suit at the horn to make it 43-39 for Bridgewater heading to the fourth.
  • Bridgewater opened the fourth quarter with two makes at the charity stripe from Garcia and Corcoran added a bucket to stretch the lead to 47-39. Hollins replied and so did Garcia on the other end for the Eagles. Green made two more at the foul line and gave Bridgewater the first double-digit lead of the game at 51-41 with just under six minutes to play. Edmonds found Ford in transition to make it 53-41 before Hollins started to grind away. An 8-0 run for the team with no mascot made it just a four-point game with 2:24 to play. Edmonds knocked down a jumper before Hollins replied to stay within four. HU had to foul and Corcoran went to the line and made a pair of clutch free throws to make it 57-51 inside of a minute remaining. The Eagles got a stop and Green put the icing on the cake with a layup.
