Eagles Down Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – The Bridgewater volleyball team traveled south to open conference play with a win against Ferrum 3-0.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Ferrum 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-11)
Records: Bridgewater 8-1 (1-0 ODAC); Ferrum 3-4 (0-1 ODAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set started off in a back and forth contest between the two teams until back to back kills by Ashley Rutherford and Rachael Meyers gave Bridgewater a comfortable 10-6 advantage. The Eagles continued to hold onto its lead, but Ferrum did not surrender after an Airiana Beverley kill brought the deficit down to two halfway through the set. Libero Sophia Stites served up two aces allowing BC to claim a six point advantage 17-11. Following a Kylie Robinson kill, Bridgewater capitalized on several Panther attack errors to take the set 25-20.
  • The Eagles busted out to an early 7-1 lead in the second set following another service ace from Stites. At one point in the match, BC led by as many as nine points against Ferrum. The Panthers fought back with two successful runs cutting the lead 13-11. Bridgewater continued on the attack at the 20 point mark with two Faith DePew kills and a Reagan Stoop service ace to help the team secure the set 25-19.
  • In the final set, the Eagles busted out to an early 10-5 lead following several attack errors from the Panther floor. BC maintained control of its lead going on a 5-0 run that ended with a Robinson kill. Another run for Bridgewater followed to get the team to the 20 point mark with a lead 20-7. The final attack came from Stoop on a kill assisted by freshman Faith Shields to help the Eagles secure the sweep and the set 25-11.
MATCH FACTS
  • On the attack Stoop finished the night with 11 kills, three service aces, and ended with a .409 hitting percentage, Robinson followed ending with seven kills and teammate Brooklyn Williams had five.
  • The Eagles finished with two in double digits in the assist category Shields with 14 and Rutherford with 12.
  • Defensively Stoop had 12 digs and Stites contributed nine to go along with four service aces.
  • This is the sixth time BC has shutout its opponent in the young season.
