The BasicsÂ
Â
Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Susquehanna 1
Records: Bridgewater 3-2-0, Susquehanna 0-3-0
Â
How it HappenedÂ
- Bridgewater had a chance early as Kendall Garza fired a shot that was blocked out of play by the Susquehanna defense leading to an early corner kick. BC did not register a shot off of the opportunity and SU flipped the field leading to a Gillian Maack shot on goal that was saved by Carlee Gaboury off of a free kick. Â Â
- The Eagles continued to have chances during the opening half, but did not register a shot on frame. The River Hawks blocked a shot by Alicia Keo and the Eagles put six shots off target after Garza's early chance. Susquehanna had another offensive chance in the 27th minute as a through-ball by the River Hawks gave Emily Wertz a chance. Gaboury made the initial stop and BC attempted to clear the ball but failed to do so. The ball took an unfortunate deflection off of Gaboury and into the back of the net to give SU an early 1-0 advantage.
- Susquehanna had an early chance right out of the break and Gaboury turned it aside. The Eagles immediately flipped the field and knotted the game as Lyric Birkley found Skyler Daum and the senior forward buried her shot for her second goal on the campaign to knot the game in the 57th minute.
- With the game tied, both teams had chances yet neither side could put a shot on target. BC had back-to-back corner kicks in the 73rd minute and could not get a shot off on either attempt. Katelyn Seagraves picked off a Susquehanna pass and sent it on to Keo to try and start another attack. Keo and Seagraves exchanged passes threw the River Hawk defense until Keo buried a shot into the back of the net to put Bridgewater in front for the first time at 2-1.
- BC wasted no time in adding an insurance goal after another save by Gaboury in the crease. The senior keeper punted the ball down the pitch and after a few deflections Keo headed it towards Birkley and the sophomore fired a shot from over 25 yards away and put it in the upper left corner of the goal on a dime to extend the Eagle advantage to 3-1. Seagraves tried to extend the lead in the final minutes as she put another shot on goal, but Kayleigh Saboja made the stop for Susquehanna.
