Eagles Post Second Shutout in Big Win Over Cedar Crest

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College field hockey team dominated the action in a 5-0 shutout victory against Cedar Crest at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Sunday morning.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 5, Cedar Crest 0
Records: Bridgewater 2-1; Cedar Crest 1-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles got right after it on the offensive side of the field recording 11 shots in the first quarter, including nine that had to be kicked away by the Falcons' goalie. Emily Tyler found the back of the cage with just 0.7 seconds left in the opening quarter as she deflected a pass from Carynn Klingler for the score. The Eagles led 1-0 after 15 minutes.
  • Bridgewater had another offensive onslaught in the second period as it registered eight shots and maintained possession for a majority of the quarter. Kadee Schrader was forced to make eight more saves as she held the Eagles off the board, but BC maintained a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • The scoring started early in the second half as the Eagles came right out of the gates and Lexi Francis tallied her first collegiate goal just 52 seconds into the third quarter. She was open again and got her second goal of the day less than three minutes later to give Bridgewater a 3-0 advantage. She wasn't quite finished as she took a lengthy pass and lifted a side-angled shot that went top right into the back of the cage to complete a hat trick and move the score to 4-0 in favor of the home side. She found open space again a few moments later and almost had another opportunity to score but the play was broken up. She scored all three of her goals within a span of less than five minutes.
  • The final score came off the stick of Klingler as she added a goal to her scoreline at the 51:24 mark of the game. It proved to be the final goal of the game as the Eagles prevailed 5-0.
