BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team saw three players record at least four goals as the Eagles went on to a 21-9 win against Virginia Wesleyan in the regular season home finale at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trevor McClelland rocketed a shot past the VWU goalie after getting a pass from Connor McLean to get the first goal of the game barely 30 seconds into the contest. Luke Wendler hit the twine almost a minute later and also received an assist from McLean, 2-0. McClelland got his second of the game followed by a strike from Drew Huber. Wendler capped a first-quarter hat trick with back-to-back goals with a helper to Riley Stewart and McLean, respectively.Â
- The Marlins finally got on the baord to make it 6-1, but Wendler responded immediately with another goal to make it 7-1. Gysbertus Metten, who was making his first collegiate start, scored with 90 seconds left before McLean got in on the scoring with an assist from Ryan Linn to make it 9-1 after 15 minutes.
- Grant Nyland scored to start the second quarterbefore Myzaiah Garris gave the Marlins their second goal of the night. Bryce Burgit and McLean scored before Metter tacked on two goals back to back, including one with under 10 seconds left in the half, as the Eagles led 14-2 at the break.
- McClelland netted the first two goals of the third quarter including one with an assist from Hayden Gourley before Metten tacked on another one, 17-2. Virginia Wesleyan scored with just under eight minutes in the third, but Nyland and McClelland made it 19-4 after three quarters.Â
- Jim Davis registered a goal to kick off the fourth period to set the score at 20-4. The Marlins offense picked up in the final frame as the visitors tallied four straight goals on the way to a 21-9 final.
GAME STATS
- McClelland recorded a game-high five goals,while McLean finished with a game-best seven points on two goals and five assists. Wendler also had six points on four goals and a pair of helpers.
- Metten had four goals on five shots as he made his first start in his final regular season home game as a senior. He also snagged two ground balls.
- Hubter finished with a goal and two assists, while Nyland had two scores.
- Davis, Owen Cogan and Burgit also scored.
- Stewart finished with four assists and Gourley also pitched in a pair of helpers as well.Â
- Gabriel Alexander went 16-for-22 in faceoffs and grabbed 15 ground balls, while Samuel Sharps won 8-of-11 with four ground balls.
- McLean added five ground balls to his stat sheet, while Wender, Eddie Ross IV and Jacob Mead all picked up four ground balls.
- Gourley, Kevin Tiffey, Ryan Addison, Brennan McKeown, Tyler Carney and Jackson Wicker each had three ground balls in the win.
- Ross and Addison both caused three turnovers and Wicker registered a pair of CTs. Mead, Liam Santilli and Burgit also caused turnovers on the night.
- Carney made 15 saves in 50 minutes before giving way to Zach Guthrie-Pimpinella for the last 10 minutes who stopped four shots.Â
- Bridgewater outshot Virginia Wesleyan 50-41 and had a 66-39 edge in ground balls.Â
