BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team fell 8-1 to Lynchburg in a match that featured battles all across the ladder.
BC was able to take one of the three doubles matches thanks to a brilliant performance by
Gabe Elder and
Mark Gordon at the top spot. The duo capitalized with a late service break and used to momentum to come out on top 8-5.
Matthew Leonard and
Noah Hughes fell behind early at the No. 2 spot, but got back on serve before a late service break led to a 5-8 defeat.
Ahead 2-1, Lynchburg swept singles play but not without a few scares along the way. Elder got out in front in the opening set on court three, but ended up getting broken down the stretch to force a tiebreak. Elder got the opening two points but dropped the opening set 6-7(3). It was the opposite stroy in the second set as Elder fell behind 0-3 but rallied before falling 3-6.Â
Hughes also battled through adversity in his match at No. 6 as the junior fell behind 2-5 before pulling back to within a service break. Hughes ultimately fell 4-8 as the match was shortened to a pro-set due to darkness.
Bridgewater is back in action on Friday as they host Roanoke in their Bleed Crimson match as part of Division III Week.Â
