THE BASICS
Final Score: (Game 1) Bridgewater 11, Carnegie Mellon 7; (Game 2) No. 14 Wartburg 7, Bridgewater 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- BC loaded the bases in the top of the second inning and got on the board first as Hannah Mahan got tagged with a pitch. Brooklynn Fridley followed with a single up the middle with bases still jammed and pushed two more across to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage.
- The Eagles tagged on five more in the top of the third. Jordan Wise stepped to the plate with runners on the corners and laid down a bunt. The Tartans pitcher fielded the bunt and made the throw to the catcher to try and get the runner coming from third, but Jazmyn Smith slid in and was safe at the plate. Molly Ecroyd and Wise each scored on wild pitches and Kaelyn Ramsey scored on an error extending the lead. A Torie Shifflett RBI single pushed Mahan across to complete the scoring and giving BC an 8-0 advantage.
- CMU got on the board in the home half of the third with a RBI groundout but the Eagles quickly answered as Smith scored on another wild pitch to make it 9-1 Eagles.
- The Tartans responded in a big way in the bottom of the fourth with four runs thanks to some defensive miscues by Bridgewater to make it 9-6 heading into the fifth inning.
- A Sarah Wimer RBI single drove Shifflett in to make it 10-6 in the top of the fifth. Morgan Lucas added an insurance run with a solo homerun in the top of the sixth, but the Tartans added one more in the bottom half of the frame to stay within striking distance. BC held on in the bottom of the seventh, but not without some excitement. Back-to-back singles gave CMU runners at the corners, but the Eagles defense secured the final three outs without allowing a run.
GAME STATS
- Ramsey turned in a 1-for-2 effort at the plate along with a walk. Shifflett went 1/4 at the plate and added a RBI and a walk.
- Kira Monji added a pair of base knocks for the Tartans along with a RBI and a walk in four at bats.
- Erica Nelson picked up the win for BC after striking out four over 3.1 innings.
- Grace Fujino took the loss for Carnegie Mellon after allowing six earned runs in the first two innings.
- BC ended a five-game skid with the victory.
Game Two
- Wartburg put runners on in the top of the first by virtue of walk and a hit-by-pitch, but a strikeout by Mackenzie Cauthorn and a flyout to Fridley retired the side. The Knights threatened again in the top of the second after a bunt for a single put a runner aboard. Ella Link stepped up to the plate a crushed a two-run homerun to give WC a 2-0 lead.
- The Knights loaded the bases in the top of the third and capitalized thanks to a BC error on a ground ball to score two runs and go ahead 4-0. Bridgewater got on the board in the bottom half of the frame as singles from Mahan and Shifflett ut runners on the corners. Shifflett broke for second but stopped once the Knights made the throw to second allowing for Mahan to break for the plate and score, putting the Eagles on the board.
- BC continued to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles loaded the bases thanks to a pair of walks and a single before a Shifflett base knock brought Ramsey in to score. A wild pitch and a Fridley fly out allowed for the Eagles to tie the game 4-4. The Eagles took the lead as Wimer singled up the middle allowing for Shifflett to score, putting BC ahead 5-4.
- The Knights quickly took the lead back in the top of the fifth on two swings. A single put the leadoff runner aboard before another two-run blast put Wartburg back in front 6-5.
- Wimer delivered again in the bottom of the sixth with two runners aboard. The graduate student ripped a ball down the right field line and cleared the fenced off the bounce for a ground-rule double, allowing for Shifflett to score and tie the game 6-6.
- Wartburg led off the top of the seventh with a base knock. A pair of stolen bases pushed the runner to third and a single eventually pushed the go-ahead run home for BC could get the final two outs of the frame. The Eagles got a runner aboard in the bottom of the seventh as McKenna Mueller walked, but the Eagles left her stranded to end the contest.
GAME STATS
- Fridley, Shifflett and Wimer all turned in multi-hit efforts along with a RBI in the loss.
- Ashley Nelson took the win for the Knights after tossing two scoreless innings in relief and allowing just one hit.
- Brantley Swift took the loss for BC despite only allowing one run and recording five punchouts.
- Sydney Illg went 3/3 at the plate and added two RBI, along with two runs scored.
- Wartburg tallied eight stolen bases in the win.

Bridgewater returns home to take on Mary Washington on Thursday in a pair of contests scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m.
