BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team fell 12-9 against Mary Washington at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The vistors got on the board first with a pair of goals from J.D. Nozemack to give UMW a 2-0 lead with 13:33 left in the opening quarter.The Eagles responded as Trevor McClelland notched his first of the game off an assist from Drew Huber before Luke Wendler tied it up after receiving a pass from Grant Nyland, 2-2. Nozemack completed his first-quarter hat trick with two minutes left in the quarter as Mary Washington led 3-2 after the first 15 minutes.
- Dave Votapek found the back of the cage to extend the lead to 4-2 but McClelland kept Bridgewater within one with a goal at the nine minute mark. Votapek scored again with an assist from Garrett Keogh, but once again McClelland was there to keep it a one-score game as Connor McLean found the attackman in open space with 2:53 left in the half. Both sides had opportunities in the final two minutes of the half but UMW held onto a 5-4 advantage at the break.
- Nozemack got back on the scoresheet to open the third quarter followed by another strike from Votapek as the visitors moved ahead by three at 7-4 with 10:55 to go in the period. Riley Stewart hit the twine to make the score 7-5, but Mary Washington won the ensuing faceoff and sprinted down the field to score less than 30 seconds later to make it 8-5.Â
- Chris Martel scored twice to bookend another goal from Nozemack and Stewart scored his second goal of the quarter with 2:40 on the clock to send the game into the final 15 minutes with a 9-8 scoreline.
- In the fourth quarter, Mike Seraphin-Jones and Votapek went back-to-back to give the visitors a three-goal advantage with 7:12 left in regulation. McClelland scored his fourth of the game in hopes of willing the Eagles to another late-game comeback, but Keogh tallied the final goal of the game with two minutes left to ice the game for Mary Washington.

- McClelland led the Eagles with four goals, while Martel and Stewart each tallied a pair.
- Wendler scored the other goal for BC and pitched in a pair of assists.Â
- McLean extends his Bridgewater career-record mark for assists as he added three helpers.
- Gabriel Alexander went 12-of-14 in faceoffs and grabbed a team-best 10 ground balls.Â
- Ryan Addison caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three ground balls, while Martel also registered two CTs.
- Brennan McKeown and Jackson Wicker each caused a turnover as well.Â
- Making his first collegiate start in the cage, Ian Cook stopped 11 shots in the loss, while Riley Green also made 11 saves in all 60 minutes.
- Mary Washington outshot Bridgewater 54-31, while also handling a slim 35-33 edge in ground balls.

Bridgewater hits the road on Saturday, April 1, as it heads to No. 10 Washington and Lee for an ODAC matchup. The game is set to begin at 5 pm.
