BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team fell to Randolph 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles opened the match by taking a 2-1 lead after doubles action.
Noah Hughes and
Matthew Leonard cruised to an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 spot and
Bryce Cline and
Ryan Briggman teamed up for a hard-fought 8-6 win on court three.
Hughes was the first off the court in singles action after the junior rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in just over 30 minutes.
Mark Gordon joined Hughes in the win column as he grabbed a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 spot.Â
Leonard dropped the opening set 0-6 on court two and had his back to the wall early in the second set, but was able to scrap his way back into the set before falling 4-6.Â
At the no. 4 spot, Cline took the opening set 6-4 but dropped the second 3-6 forcing a decider. The junior fell in the third set 1-6.

Gabe Elder fell in straight sets at the top spot, Briggman was locked in a battled on court five. The freshman dropped the opening set in a tight tie breaker 6-7(6) but got a late break of serve in the second set to level the match 6-4. Briggman fell behind 3-0 early in the decider and was behind 1-5, 30-30 before fighting back and clicking off the next two games. Briggman's comeback effort fell short though, falling 3-6.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday as they make the long trip to Guilford to battle the Quakers. The match was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved up a day due to forecasted weather in the Greensboro area over the weekend.
