Nine Walks Push Baseball Past Trinity

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College baseball team picked up a come-from-behind 10-8 victory over Trinity on Sunday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Bridgewater 10, Trinity 8
Records: Bridgewater 8-12, Trinity 3-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
  • The Bantams opened the scoring in the top of the first as Jack Ryan belted a two-run blast over the scoreboard in left field to take a 2-0 lead. Eagle starter Tanner Ray quickly settled in during the second inning as he retired Trinity in order in the second, but a triple and a single allowed for a run to score in the third extending the lead for the visitors to 3-0.
  • Trinity tagged on another run in the top of the fourth thanks to some small ball and a few walks by the BC pitching staff, but Bridgewater quickly responded with a six spot in the bottom half of the inning. BC loaded the bases with no outs and Jonathan Sexton delivered with a rip up the middle allowing for everyone to advance safely and Jeffrey Snider to score. A pair of strikeouts gave the Bantams a chance to maintain the lead but a walk by Jarret Biesecker extended the inning and brought Hunter Clever in. Brett Tharp wore a pitch that allowed for Ben Anderson to score. Brandan Hartman was also tagged by a pitch to bring in Sexton and Snider came to the plate a single to left allowing for Tharp and Biesecker to score, giving BC a 6-4 advantage.
  • The Bridgewater lead lasted an out before the Bantams plated a trio of runs capped off by a Ryan two-run double to take a 7-6 lead in the top of the fifth. Trinity added another run in the sixth, but a sacrifice-fly by Clever allowed Tharp to score to get the gap back to just a run 8-7.
  • BC loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh after a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. Hartman stepped to the plate and singled to left allowing for Biesecker and Luke Tomajczyk to score and give the Eagles the lead back 9-8.
  • The Eagles went to Tharp in a jam in the top of the eighth and the closer did his job as Trinity left the bases loaded. Clever scored on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the frame to give Tharp some more breathing room, but he didn't need it as the Bantams went down in order.
