Eagles Dominate in Doubleheader

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College softball team swept Sweet Briar in dominant fashion during Saturdays twin bill winning both games 11-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
  • The Eagles got on the board early in the first inning on a Sarah Wimer single that brought Brooklynn Fridley home notching Wimer her first RBI of the day. In the second, Morgan Lucas kicked off her dominant day with a solo homer to left field. Later in the inning, Wimer crushed a ball to deep center notching a two-run home run of her own.
  • The Vixens responded in the third as Ilka-Marie Kuleba hit a solo home run sending a ball to deep left field.
  • In bottom of the third, the Eagles continued their scoring onslaught with McKenna Mueller crossing the plate on a Jordan Wise groundout. Following that, Lucas uncorked another home run to left field bringing Andrea Savage home in the process.
  • The Eagles sealed the game in the fourth, kicked off by a Mueller double bringing in Jazmyne Smith and Wimer for a pair of runs. Avery Phillips brought Mueller home with a single. Sarah Kate Tozier closed things out driving home the final run of the game for the Eagles to set the score 11-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Eagles handled business in the top of the fifth with a quick one-two-three inning to invoke the mercy rule ending game one.
GAME STATS
  • Fourteen total Eagles recorded a hit in the first game of the day.
  • Lucas recorded two home runs and three RBI going 2-for-2 at the plate.
  • Wimer went 3-for-3 at the dish with a home run and three RBI.
  • Mueller went 1-for-1 on the day driving in two runs.
  • Tozier recorded a hit on her lone at bat of the day with an RBI
  • Phillips went 1-for-1 at the plate with an RBI
  • Elena Williams notched her second win on the season.
Game Two
  • The Vixens struck first on a Lauren Jamerson RBI single in the top of the first.
  • From here, it was all Bridgewater starting with a Torrie Shifflett double to left-center bringing in Kathryn Thomas for a run tying things up in the third. Shifflett later scored on an error by the left fielder during a Fridley at bat. Fridley later crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
  • Savage stroke a two-run double to set the score at 5-1. Savage and Lucas scored on an error, while Shifflett singled bringing in Kaelyn Ramsey followed by a Fridley single to bring in Thomas. The Eagles wrapped up the third inning scoring onslaught with a Wimer single to bring in Shifflett.
  • Dani Fellner drove in the last run of the day for the Eagles in the fourth inning bringing Ramsey across the plate to make the score 11-1.
GAME STATS
  • Eleven total Eagles recorded hits on the in the second half of the twin bill.
  • Shifflett and Savage each had a pair of RBI.
  • Wimer went 2-for-3 at the dish and drove in a run.
  • Thomas recorded an RBI going 2-for-3 at the dish.
  • The Eagles pitching staff allowed only 5 hits in game two. Mackenzie Cauthorn started in the circle and tossed 2.0 innings before Erica Nelson came in for 2.0 innings as well. She picked up the win to move to 3-0 on the season and allowed just two hits. Savannah Painter closed out the contest in the circle as she put the Vixens down in order in the fifth.
UP NEXT
Bridgewater is on the road to take on local foe Mary Baldwin in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 21 in Staunton, Virginia with game one starting at 3 pm.
