Records: Bridgewater 5-12, Mary Baldwin 3-9
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
- Bridgewater wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first as Hunter Clever ripped a ball to center field with two men on and cleared the bases as Brandan Hartman and Jarret Biesecker came into score. Tristan Gordon came to the plate next and belted a high fly to left that cleared the fence and Clever to put BC in front 4-0 in the early going.
- Bridgewater added four more in the bottom of the second as BC hit through the order for the second consecutive inning. Biesecker led the frame off with an infield hit and then swiped second to get in scoring position. Jeffrey Snider reached on an error and Hartman followed up with a ground-rule double to drive the duo in making it 6-0. Later in the inning, Brett Tharp singled to bring in Hartman and Isaac Sumpter knocked in his fellow freshman Luke Tomajczyk to extend the advantage to 8-0.
- Jaden Isidro started the game with a pair of scoreless frames, but Mary Baldwin got on the board in the bottom of the third thanks to a RBI base knock and a sacrifice flyout by Dylan Rankin. With the score now 8-2, BC kept the theme going and plated four more runs for the third consecutive inning thanks to singles by Sumpter and Clever that drove in a run each, and a two RBI triple by Tomajczyk.
- Each side started to settle down until Bridgewater put up another four spot in the bottom of the sixth. Kyle Carlson led the inning off with a double down the third-base line and later scored on a fielding error by MBU that allowed snider to reach. Isiah Blanks pinch hit for clever with two runners on and pulled a base hit through the left side allowing for Luke Olimpio to score. Tomajczyk delivered again later in the inning as a rip to center field got down for a single and allowed for T.J. Johnson to score. Tharp followed with a single of his own to drive in Blanks and extend the lead to 16-2.
- Bridgewater added a pair in seventh as Tomajczyk added another RBI and Spencer Sigmon got in on the action as he drove a run in as well. Mary Baldwin responded in the top of the eighth with their own pair of runs but a triple by Nick Stavros and another RBI by Sigmon allowed for BC to maintain a 20-4 advantage headed to the ninth.
- The ninth had some excitement as Bowe Rogers came in to close the game out. The Fighting Squirrels were able to push a run across but a strikeout by Rogers ended the contest.
