BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's basketball team escaped with a 62-61 victory against Randolph in Nininger Hall in ODAC action on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Randolph scored the first points of the game on a three pointer by Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson to go up 3-0 but a quick response by Jaden Alsberry cut the lead to 3-2 less than 90 seconds into the contest. Abby Freeman scored to put the Eagles in the lead at 4-3, which they held for the remainder of the game. The home side compiled a 10-2 run over the next four minutes of the game to hold a 10-5 advantage after a driving layup from India Dailey with 5:08 on the clock. The WildCats tied the game at 10-10 bu BC quickly retook the lead on a Rosemary Pierson jumper, 12-10. The Eagles were able to close out the opening 10 minutes on an 8-2 run to enter the second quarter up by six points at 18-12.
- The Eagles were able to pull away slightly in the second period of play beginning with Jay Garcia getting three points the old fashioned way to start it off. The lead stretched out to 10 points at 25-15 after a pair of freebies by Erika Nettles with 6:12 showing in the half. The two teams traded baskets until a late Pierson trey gave the Eagles a 12-point advantage at the break, 38-26.
- Midway through the third quarter, the Eagles went ahead by 19 points at 49-30 after a layup from Freeman, two of her 11 points on the evening, but Randolph responded in a big way rattling off a 17-7 run over the remainder of the quarter, including a stretch where the WildCats scored 11-straight, as the teams entered the final 10 minutes with BC in front by nine, 56-47.
- The final period also rested with the visitors as the team outscored Bridgewater 14-6 in the last 10 minutes. The Eagles finally broke a scoreless drought of nearly seven minutes at the 7:21 mark on a floated by Riley Corcoran to put the Eagles up 58-51. Yanessa Cabrera cut the lead to five off a jumper and the Crimson & Gold tallied a single free throw to add one more to the lead. Cameron O'Neil drilled a three from the corner to silent the crowd in Nininger Hall and force a BC timeout with 5:29 to go with the home side leading by just three points, 59-56.
- A key Corcoran three pointer doubled the advantage to six points, but the next five points went to the visitors, including a three pointer from Crenshaw-Patterson with under 40 seconds remaining in regulation to set the score at 62-61. With just a one point lead, the Eagles waited out the shot clock before putting up a shot with under eight seconds to go that did not fall. Randolph went in transition and Cabrera went for a driving layup for the win with under a second left on the clock, but Corcoran was able to block the shot away as the ball trickled out of play and time expired to secure a fourth-straight ODAC victory for the Eagles.
GAME FACTS
- Alsberry and Nettles led the way with 12 points each, while Alsberry pitched in five rebounds and three assists as well as a pair of blocked shots. Nettles grabbed four boards and was 4-of-6 from the floor.
- Freeman and Pierson also finished in double figures as Freeman recorded 11 and Pierson finished with 10 of her own. Freeman led the way on the glass for BC with seven boards in the win.
- Dailey pitched in four assists with two points, while Corcoran secured the game with her lone block of the night and five clutch points.
- For Randolph, Crenshaw-Patterson led the team with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. Cabrera and O'Neil each tallied eight in the loss.
- Abbie Baker led the team with seven rebounds of her own.
- Randolph had a 31-30 advantage in rebounds, but Bridgewater was able to pick up 38 points in the paint compared to just 16 from the visitors.
