Eagles get First Win of the Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with an 18-6 final against Guilford on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Less than a minute into the contest, Kaity Petersheim recorded an unassisted tally to get the Eagles in front early. Nearly five minutes elapsed before the game's second goal, which came out of the stick of Lauren Roberts off a feed from Ashley Venit, 2-0.
  • Guilford quickly responded with a goal only 30 seconds later, but Venit sored to push the lead back to two goals at 3-1.  The Quakers got another one back but a late goal from Jenna Entsminger from Grace Pietro gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead after the first 15 minutes.
  • The game opened up for Bridgewater in the second quarter as the offense exploded for eight goals. Guilford actually scored first in the period, but a five-goal run from the Eagles pushed the visitors in front by a 9-3 count. Maggie Hartnett broke the stretch with a goal at the 9:42 mark, but Pietro responded with a tally just 30 seconds later, followed by goals from Entsminger and Aunnie Hacker as Bridgewater went into the recess with a 12-4 lead.
  • Madeline Magill kicked off the second with a goal with 13:41 showing on the clock in the third. A Guilford man-up goal with 5:31 left in the period set the score to 13-5, but the Eagles once again went on a five-goal run to close out the contest. Kena Gresham and Caris Cianelli were among those to score in the fourth quarter on the way to an 18-6 win.
 
GAME STATS
  • Petersheim led the way offensively with six points on four goals and two assists, while Roberts and Magill each had four points as Magill recorded a hat trick and Roberts scored a pair of goals.
  • Entsminger also recorded a hat trick, while Hacker, Venit, Pietro, Gresham, Annika Benson and Cianelli all scored in victory. Delaney Kerns also got in on the fun with an assist on the team's final goal for the Eagles.
  • Venit picked up five ground balls, while Faith Bartos collected four of her own and led the way with a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Roberts had a game-high seven draw controls, while Pietro and Cianelli each had four.
  • Rachael Robinson made six saves in all 90 minutes in the cage.
 
UP NEXT
Bridgewater is back at it on Tuesday, Feb. 28, against Moravian in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for an 11 am tilt.
