HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Bridgewater College men's basketball team pushed its win streak to five games with an 82-64 win over Juniata on Tuesday.
The Basics
Final Score: Bridgewater 82, Juniata 64
Records: Bridgewater 5-1, Juniata 2-2
How it Happened
- Bridgewater jumped on the front foot right away as Aaron Oates found Jordan Cooper in the paint to give the Eagles an early lead. A rare two-point jumper from RK Law pushed the BC lead to four before Juniata got on the board on a second chance effort. Bridgewater answered with six unanswered as Oates and Alec Topper combined to give the visitors a 10-2 advantage. Both sides traded scores before a Topper three pointer broke the pattern, but Juniata responded with consecutive scores to close it down to a five-point game. Three free throws from Topper halted the home side's momentum momentarily. After a JC score Oates started a seven-point BC scoring spree capped off by a Landon Hawes three pointer to push it to a 27-14 advantage 10 minutes in.
- An old-fashioned three-point play from Tyler Lapetina got Juniata back on the board but the Bridgewater offense got rolling once more. A 7-0 BC run capped off by another Hawes long ball forced a JC timeout as the visiting Eagles were up double on the home side 34-17. Cooper pushed it to nine unanswered before buckets by Chase Husted on consecutive trips cut into the BC edge. A Topper three-point play finished off the half with Bridgewater in front 39-21.
- Oates got the scoring going on the opening trip down the floor in half number two. Topper followed suit with a slam in transition and a three pointer before Juniata got in the scoring column in the second half nearly three minutes in. Each side traded makes before a long ball from Will Dunlap and a layup from Hawes stopped the flow and put the visitors in front by 26 before more back and forth scoring ensued.
- Still each sided continued to trade scores before a Hawes free throw and a three-point bucket from Will Vetter gave BC its largest lead of the night at 65-38. A quick six-point run for Juniata gave the home side some life but on cue a jumper from Topper incited more back and forth action. Juniata slowly closed back in before another triple from Vetter pushed the lead out to 72-49.JC was able to close back to within 14 with 88 seconds left but makes from Drew Tapscott held close the door.
