RADFORD, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's basketball team opened it's season with an exhibition at Radford on Thursday night.
The Basics
Final Score: Radford 77, Bridgewater 40
How it Happened
- Radford opened the game with a bucket on it's first trip down the floor, but India Dailey answered for BC with a long two to tie the game up early. The Highlanders used an old-fashioned three-point play to spark a 7-0 run before a Riley Corcoran jumper got Bridgewater back on the board. The rest of the opening frame was dominated by the home side with the except of a Dailey three as Radford took a 21-7 lead after one.
- The Highlanders opened the second quarter with five unanswered before Jaiden Polston found an open Jaden Alsberry to get the Eagles offense going. The squads started trading buckets as Rosemary Pierson drilled a jumper from long range and Aylon Humphreys knocked down a midrange jumper for the Eagles. RU got the three-pointer going down the stretch in the second quarter to take a 44-18 lead into the break.
- The two sides traded buckets to start the fourth as Corcoran and Dailey put up tallies from BC. Radford put together a string of scores before Jay Garcia got to the charity stripe and knocked down a pair. Both teams struggled from the floor late in the third quarter, but a pair of makes from My'la Green for BC closed the Radford gap to 57-28 after three.
- Radford opened the fourth with a make on its first trip down the floor, but after a make from Mallory Nolan and a pair of force turnovers the Highlanders burned a timeout. Out of the stoppage a Highlanders' long ball stopped the Eagles' momentum. BC responded with a layup from Alexis Edmonds before Radford went for another run that was also halted by Edmonds after a pair of offensive rebounds. Alexis Woods got in on the scoring late as she and Edmonds nailed a pair of three-pointers around the two-minute mark. After a miss in the closing seconds Radford took home a 77-40 victory in the exhibition.
