HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was quiet from both sides for a majority of the period. Lynchburg had the first opportunity as Marlou Wendriks got a shot on goal off a penalty corner from Aaryn Boatwright, but the shot was saved by BC goalie Madalyn Miller. The Hornets took a pair of shots towards the end of the first 15 minutes, but Miller was there again to preserve the scoreless tie after the opening quarter.
- Lynchburg came out fast in the second as Olivia van Metre scored off a pass from Wendriks to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead under two minutes into the second quarter. The visitors doubled the lead after a Riley Winefordner corner that led to van Metre's second score of the night following a pass from Ryleigh Cameron. The half came to a close with the score remaining 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
- The Eagles' best scoring chance of the night came early in the third quarter as Daphne Daymude got behind the Hornets' defense and was all alone before a tremendous stick save by Kayla Brady kept BC off the scoreboard. Bridgewater had another shot in the quarter, but Rylie Flick's scoring attempt went wide of the cage as the clock ticked down to end the period.
- Miller was called on to make a pair of saves through the opening minutes of the final frame to keep the deficit at two goals. As the clock ticked below a minute left in regulation, the Hornets earned a penalty corner and Wendriks rocketed a shot from the top of the circle that found its way into the net after a pass in off the corner by Winefordner. The Hornets held on for a 3-0 win.
