HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first points of the night came from the hands of Terese Greene less than 20 seconds in as the Hornets got the first lead of the game, 2-0. Reagan Maynard dropped two free throws to draw the game at 2-2 as both teams traded scores as the game remained tied at 11-11 after an Erika Nettles free throw with 3:45 left in the opening quarter. Shenandoah was able to pull ahead by five at 16-11, but Riley Corcoran drained a jumper and Abby Freeman dropped in a lay up to erase the deficit down to 16-15, which remained the score as the quarter came to an end.
- The Hornets once again pulled out to a five-point advantage at 22-17 with under seven minutes remaining in the half, but the resilient Eagles bounced back over the next four minutes to take their first lead of the contest at 26-24 with 1:58 to go after a basket by Erika Nettles. In the final seconds, the Hornets tied the game again before a basket by Corcoran gave BC the lead but a Sydney Shepos triple gave SU a 29-28 advantage going into the break.
- Nettles started off the second half with a basket followed by a three-pointer from Kayla Ford to give the Eagles a 33-29 advantage less than 90 seconds into the third frame. Shenandoah responded with a 13-2 run over the next five minutes of play, holding BC to just 1-of-8 shooting from the floor during the stretch and took the largest lead of the contest at 42-35 with 2:30 left in the quarter. A free throw disrupted the rally and each side traded baskets to end the third as the Hornets maintained a 44-38 lead.
- That was all the scoring for the Hornets on the night as the Eagles defense held the visitors to zero field goals over the final 10 minutes on their way to a 14-0 run to close out the game. Bridgewater walked away with a 52-44 victory.
