BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win against Hollins in its home opener on Tuesday night in Nininger Gym.

How it Happened:
- Hollins actually won the first three points of the first set to take an early lead, but the Eagles rallied for six straight points capped by a service ace from Madeline Walker. The two sides continued to alternate scores with no one able to gain a solid run until Bridgewater capitalized on consecutive blocks bookended by service aces to win the opening game 25-17.
- The second set began much of the same as each side traded points and neither side could gain an advantage. BC went up 10-8 off a kill from Sarah Kerns but three-straight points to Hollins gave them their first lead in a set since the beginning of the match. Bridgewater responded with eight of the next 10 points to go up 18-13 on its way to a 25-16 set victory.
- Eight of the first 10 points in the third set went to the way of the Eagles capped by a kill from Kylie Robinson. The teams exchanged scores and then an Ashley Rutherford ace and a Rachael Meyers kill stated a stretch that ended with the Eagles going ahead 18-6.
- Back-to-back kills from Ashley Casey followed by five-straight points gave the Eagles the set, 25-8, and the match, 3-0.
Match Notes:
- Leading the way for the Eagles was Meyers who finished with 10 kills on an astounding .643 hitting percentage. She also added seven block assists and a dig to her stat line finishing the night with 13.5 points contributed.
- Robinson pitched in six kills of her own with eight digs and a pair of block assists, while Faith DePew finished with five kills on a .333 hitting percentage with seven digs and three service aces.
- Rutherford pacecd the team with 14 assists with Grace Hayes adding on 12 of her own and also had three digs and a kill.
- The Eagles dominated the nets in the contest with six players pitching in on at least one block assist with Kerns in on three of those blocks with two kills and two digs in the win.
- Bridgewater swung at a .273 clip, while Hollins was held to a negative hitting percentage as a team.
Up Next
Bridgewater travels to Raleigh, North Carolina to take part in a split William Peace/Meredith Invitational. The Eagles take on Brevard on Saturday, Sept. 10 before finishing the day against Meredith. The matches are scheduled for 2 pm and 4 pm, respectively.
