Bridgewater Downs Ferrum

BRIDGEWATER, Va. --  The Bridgewater College volleyball team remained undefeated in ODAC play as it defeated Ferrum, 3-0, in Nininger Hall on Wednesday night.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Ferrum 0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-12)
Records: Bridgewater 8-5, 3-0 ODAC; Ferrum 4-8, 0-1 ODAC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ferrum opened the match with three-straight points to catch an early lead before stretching that lead to 8-3. The Eagles bounced back and cut the deficit down to two points at 11-9 off a kill by Lisa O'Grady. The Panthers grabbed another run of points, but BC fired back with a run of its own to tie the set at 15-15. The two sides alternated scores for a while until the Eagles took advantage of several attacking errors from the visitors and took the set, 25-22.
  • The second set was all Bridgewater as it jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead and stretched that out to 11-2. As a team, Ferrum struck at a -.238 clip in the second game and had nine attacking errors that to the Eagles going ahead in the match 2-0 after a 25-9 count.
  • The Eagles picked up the first five points of the third set to force an early Ferrum timeout. The lead grew to 13-5, but FC was able to work the lead down to 16-10. Another run for the Eagles put them in front 20-10 on their way to a 25-12 count to win the set and the match, 3-0.
MATCH STATS
  • O'Grady led the way with 10 kills on an impressive .500 hitting percentage as she also added five block assists to her stat line for the night.
  • Faith DePew struck over .300 and finished with eight kills to go with five digs, while Kylie Robinson pitched in six kills and seven digs in the victory.
  • Grace Hayes finished with 21 assists to lead the game, which brings her career total to 2,407. She now moves into fifth in program history in the category. 
  • Ashley Rutherford added in six assists and a dig.
  • Sophia Stites finished with five digs 
  • Gabby Atwell finished with one kill and four block assists.
  • Bridgewater hit at a .288 clip as a team compared to a -.053 mark from the visitors.
