BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team picked up a 14-0 win over N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday behind a four goal game from
Lyric Birkley.

How It Happened
- Bridgewater opened the game with a bang, scoring in the opening thirty seconds. Kaia Richardson crossed through the box to Skyler Daum who found the back of then net to open the scoring at 1-0.
- It took the Eagles fifteen minutes to get back on the scoreboard as Ashley Sabatino netted two goals in less than two minutes. Birkley joined the scoring party just two minutes later with two of her own in under a minute. Emily York added an assist on the first goal and Maren Dougherty added one on the second.
- In the closing stages of the first half Bridgewater added a trio of goals. Kendall Garza found the back of the net in the 30th minute off of a pass from Megan Palm. Palm added her second assist of the afternoon a few moments later when she found Madeline Bohan to stretch the BC lead to 7-0. Right at the end of the half Katelyn Seagraves took a penalty kick for the Eagles and buried it to extend the lead to 8-0.
- Just under three minutes into the second half Lexi Winkler found Daum and the junior buried her second goal on the afternoon to make it 9-0.
- In the 49th minute Sabatino completed the hat trick with her third goal on the afternoon on a pass from the veteran Hanna Randolph. Birkley completed the hat trick as well five minutes later off of another Richardson pass.
- Birkley added her fourth goal of the game on a freshman-freshman pass from Allison Quick in the 55th minute for a 12-0 lead.
- Palm added to her already impressive afternoon with a goal of her own after she was tripped up inside the box leading to a penalty kick.
- Bohan picked up her second goal of the game off of a cross by Taylor Thomas to finish off the scoring at 14-0.
Match Notes
- Birkley becomes the third player in program history to score four times in a game. She is the first to do so since Julia Baca in 2015.
- Fourteen goals is the most BC has scored in a game since the Eagles defeated Hollins 17-0 in 2017. Seventeen is also the most Bridgewater has scored in a game in program history
- Richardson added three assists tying her for second most in a a game in program history joining York who had three in a win over Averett in 2018.
- BC totalled 37 shots compared to just two for N.C. Wesleyan.
- The Eagles extend their shutout streak to three games. Bridgewater had a shutout streak of three games to end the 2021 spring season and in the 2019 season.
