NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team started off the 2022 season against No. 16 Christopher Newport on the road, falling by a 6-0 count on Thursday night.

How It Happened

• The Captains scored early after finding the back of the cage in the third minute of the contest before going up a pair of goals at the 7:42 mark of the game as CNU held a 2-0 advantage after the first quarter.
• The home side added on another two goals as the halftime score read 4-0 in favor of Christopher Newport.
• The Captains, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament a season ago, picked up one more goal in the third and the fourth periods, each, to walk away with a 6-0 victory to open the season.

• Allison Thompson tallied the lone shot on target for the Eagles, while Meredyth Rankin and Kelli Mullen each made a defensive save.
• First year goalkeeper Madalyn Miller earned the start in the cage where she made 11 saves on the 16 shots she faced, while Harley Hoffman played the fourth quarter and pushed aside four shots.
