Baseball Drops Game One of ODAC Final Weekend

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The No. 3 Bridgewater College baseball team fell in the opening game of the ODAC Baseball Tournament final weekend. The Eagles will play in an elimination game tomorrow facing off with No. 1 Lynchburg. 

The Basics

  • Final Score: No. 3 Bridgewater 3, No. 2 Shenandoah 9
  • Records: No. 3 Bridgewater (26-16), No. 2 Shenandoah (32-10-1)

How It Happened

  • Jeffrey Snider recorded the Eagles' first hit of the day in the top of the first with a triple to right center field. Snider had an opportunity to steal home on a passed ball but was called out at the plate. Shenandoah brought one run in the bottom of the frame. With two outs and the bases loaded, Reid Long escaped the bottom of the frame to keep the game at 1-0 Hornets
  • Shenandoah walked Kevin Navedo before allowing a Hunter Clever single through the right side in the top of the second. Rookie Camden Herron found himself at the plate with the bases loaded after Shenandoah walked Jonathan Sexton. Herron drove a single to right field to tie the game at 1-1. Jacob Grabeel and Jarret Biesecker both knocked in RBIs to give Bridgewater a 3-1 edge
  • The Hornets put together a three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead and added another in the fifth on an RBI single to make it 5-3. A four-run sixth frame increased the Shenandoah edge to five
  • Snider and Collin Reid both contributed singles in the top of the eighth but were left stranded at first and third to end the inning. The Hornets added one more in the bottom of the eighth to seal the 9-3 victory

Match Notes

  • Biesecker, Snider, Clever and Reid all contributed two hits while Herron and Grabeel added one each
  • Long picked up the loss, throwing five innings while allowing eight hits and six runs. Tucker Hrasky allowed two hits and two runs from the mound with Nick Griffin allowing one run and one hit

  • The No. 3 Eagles will now take on the No. 1 Lynchburg Hornets in an elimination match. Action is set for 10:00 a.m. at Truist Point ballpark
