SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College baseball team swept Roanoke on Saturday winning 5-2 and 10-2.

 Game One

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 5, Roanoke – 2
  • Records: Bridgewater (18-10, 5-5 ODAC); Roanoke (15-10, 6-5 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The game was held scoreless until the fifth inning when Bridgewater tacked on three runs in the inning. The Eagles loaded the bases with a single by Jarret Biesecker, Jacob Grabeel was hit by a pitch and a bunt single by Jeffrey Snider. Kevin Navedo came to the dish with the bases loaded and flew out to left field to drive in Biesecker. Two batters later, Collin Reid drove in two more of the runners on a double to left field.
  • The maroons got two runs back in the bottom half of the frame to make it 3-2.
  • In the top of the sixth Bridgewater extended its lead on a Grabeel solo home run, extending the lead to two.
  • Biesecker led off the eighth inning with a walk. Grabeel bunted down the left field line toward first base pushing the runner all the way to third. Biesecker later scored in the inning on a wild pitch to extend BC's advantage to three to secure the win.

Match Notes

  • Reid Long went seven innings with six strikeouts to secure his seventh win of the season and Brett Tharp threw two shutout innings earning his eigth save of the season. Long sits on top of the ODAC in wins and Tharp does in saves.
  • Reid had two RBIs in the game.
  • Grabeel hit his first home run of the season.

Game Two

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 10, Roanoke – 2
  • Records: Bridgewater (18-10, 6-5 ODAC); Roanoke (15-11, 6-6 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The game went into the sixth inning tied at two apiece. Collin Reid and Kevin Navedo each hit solo home runs for BC.
  • The Eagle scored three runs in the sixth inning. Grabeel got on base on a lead off walk and Navedo drove him in on a double to right field. Hunter Clever then drove in Navedo on a single with Collin Reid following up Clever with another single. Brett Tharp finished up the damage in the inning driving in Clever to give BC a 5-2 lead.
  • Jarret Biesecker led off the seventh with a walk. Grabeel, Snider, Navedo and Clever would follow him up with singles. Biesecker, Grabeel, and Navedo would go on to score in the inning putting the Eagles up by six with the score now 8-2.
  • In the ninth Collin Reid hit a two-run home run after Navedo doubled to put the Eagles up 10-2 finishing off the Maroons.

Match Notes

  • Waring Garber started for the Eagles pitching four innings. Tucker Hrasky relieved him earning his second win of the year pitching three innings. Tharp finished the game in the eighth and ninth again for BC.
  • Collin Reid went 3-5 with three RBIs and hit two homers.
  • Clever and Navedo each had two RBIs.

Up Next

  • The Eagles will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Eastern Mennonite. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
