Baseball Falls to Washington and Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Bridgewater College baseball team was defeated by Washington and Lee on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 10-5.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 10, Washington and Lee – 5
  • Records: Bridgewater (17-10, 4-5 ODAC); Washington and Lee (12-13, 7-8 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles got off to a quick start scoring two runs on the Generals in the top of the first inning. Jarret Biesecker and Jacob Grabeel walked to start the game and Jeffrey Snider drove in Biesecker on a single through the right side to take the lead. Grabeel scored to make it 2-0 later in the inning on an error.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, the Generals tied the game at two apiece.
  • Bridgewater regained the lead in the fourth inning scoring two more runs. Hunter Clever singled to start the inning and stole second. Collin Reid walked, and Brandan Hartman followed Reid up with a bunt to push the runners to second and third. Timothy Hopson flew out to left field to drive in Clever. Brett Tharp then singled to load the bases and Biesecker drove Reid in to add the second run of the inning for the Eagles.
  • Washington and Lee tied the game up in the bottom half of the frame at four all.
  • BC took its final lead in the top half of the fifth inning. Kevin Navedo walked to get on base and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Reid drove in Navedo on an RBI single to right center making the score 5-4.
  • W&L added two more in the bottom half of the fifth, three in the seventh, and one in the eighth to end up with the 10-5 victory over BC.

Match Notes

  • James Swart started for the Eagles on the mound and went two innings with four strikeouts. Swart was followed up by Tucker Hrasky who went 1.1 and struck out three. Bowe Rogers followed Hrasky and went 1.2 and striking out three, Nick Griffin followed him going 1.1 and Tharp finished the game with 1.2 innings pitched.
  • Biesecker, Snider, Reid, and Hopson each had an RBI.
  • Biesecker and Reid each went 2-4.

Up Next

  • The Eagles are back in action Saturday, April 9 when they travel to Roanoke for a double header. Action is set for noon.
