Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. – On Senior Day, the Bridgewater College baseball team split a doubleheader with No. 6 Lynchburg winning game one 6-2 and losing game two 6-12. The team honored Timothy Hopson, Tanner Montgomery, Kevin Navedo, Tucker Hrasky, Jacob Grabeel, Bryce Masters and Robbie Stoss prior to the game.
Game One
The Basics
- Final Score: Bridgewater – 6, Lynchburg – 2
- Records: Bridgewater (24-14, 11-8 ODAC); Lynchburg (30-8, 14-4 ODAC)
How It Happened
- The Eagles jumped on the Hornets in this game scoring the first five runs of the game. In the first inning, Jarret Biesecker led off with a single to left field. After a Jeffrey Snider single to center pushed Biesecker into scoring position, Kevin Navedo was able to drive him in on an RBI single to left field.
- BC added another run in the second inning. A walk worked by Jacob Grabeel, a single from Biesecker and a hit by pitch from Brett Tharp worked the bases loaded for Snider. Snider drew a walk and Grabeel scored, 2-0 Eagles.
- Two more runs would score in the fifth inning as the Eagles continued to blank the Hornets. Snider led off the fifth by working a walk. Hunter Clever singled to left field and with runners on the corners Collin Reid reached base on an error and Snider scored on the play. The next at bat was Camden Herron who singled to left field and drove in Clever bringing the lead to 4-0 Eagles.
- As the Eagles continued to shutout the Hornets behind the arm of starting pitcher Reid Long, they were able to add two more insurance runs for him. In the sixth Navedo hit an RBI single to center field driving in Tharp from second base. In the seventh, Jonathan Sexton was hit by a pitch and moved to second base on a Herron ground out. Tharp drove Sexton home on a double down the left field line to score the Eagles sixth run.
- Lynchburg scored two in the seventh but was unable to muster enough offense to fight for the lead in this contest with the Eagles ultimately winning 6-2.
Match Notes
- The combination of Long to Tharp was again dominate for Bridgewater on the mound. Long tossed an impressive 6.1 innings against the No. 6 team in the country allowing only two runs on seven hits and had three strike outs. The sophomore tied the program record for wins with 10 this season and leads the conference in wins by two. Tharp finished the Hornets off with 2.2 innings earning his 10th save.
- Navedo led the Eagles offensively going 2-5 with two RBIs.
- Snider, Tharp and Biesecker each had two hits as well.
Game Two
The Basics
- Final Score: Bridgewater – 6, Lynchburg 12
- Records: Bridgewater (24-15, 11-9 ODAC); Lynchburg (31-8, 15-4 ODAC)
How It Happened
- Lynchburg took control of this game early after a five run second inning put the game in jeopardy early. The Hornets went up 10-0 before the Eagles were able to get on the board, but the team continued to slowly chip away at the lead.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles scored three runs to inch back into the game. Brett Tharp led off the inning with a base hit. A Kevin Navedo double down the left field line drove in Tharp. Hunter Clever followed Navedo with a single of his own pushing Navedo to third and Collin Reid followed Clever with a double to right center driving both runners in to score, 10-3.
- Another big three run inning from the Eagles brought them closer. In the sixth, Jeffrey Snider and Navedo started the inning off with singles. Clever followed with a double to right center driving both runners in to score. Camden Herron reached on an error later in the inning that allowed Clever to score. After six innings Bridgewater found themselves back in the game down four runs.
- Lynchburg added two more to its tally in the eighth and BC fell 6-12 in game two.
Match Notes
- Waring Garber started for the Eagles on the mound pitching 2.2 innings. James Swart followed Garber with 0.1 innings, Nick Griffin followed him with 2.0, Tucker Hrasky 3.0 and Robbie Stoss with 1.0.
- Clever had a big game at the plate going 2-5 scoring two runs and driving in two runs of his own.
- Reid went 2-3 with two RBIs.
- Navedo added two more hits to his day ending the day with four hits.
Up Next
- The Eagles finish their season with a 24-15 record with an 11-9 record in conference play. They will wait to see who their opponent will be in the ODAC tournament next weekend.
