Women's Lax Comes Back to Defeat Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team overcame a 9-6 halftime deficit on its way to a 15-11 victory against Ferrum in ODAC action on Tuesday night.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 15, Ferrum 11
  • Records: Bridgewater 6-10, 3-4 ODAC; Ferrum 6-9, 3-5 ODAC

How It Happened

  • Ferrum opened up a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest before Bridgewater battled back with three-straight scores, including two from Jenna Entsminger.
  • The Panthers tied the game less than a minute later, but Aunnie Hacker put the Eagles back in front with 6:37 left in the first. 
  • FC tallied two more and BC added one with under three minutes in the period to go into the second quarter tied at 5-5.
  • The second quarter was nearly all Ferrum as it scored the first three goals of the period. Entsminger completed a hat trick with a score with 50 seconds to go in the half, but Ferrum recorded one more goal just seconds later to give the Panthers a 9-6 halftime lead. 
  • Lauren Roberts scored 21 seconds into the second half to begin the comeback followed by Kaity Petersheim to cut the lead down to 9-8. Ferrum responded with two more goals to re-up the lead to 11-8, but Bridgewater scored the game's next seven goals.
  • Hacker and Entsminger each scored before the end of the third quarter as the Eagles held the Panthers off the scoresheet in the fourth quarter and registered five goals of their own to go up 15-11, and hold on for a victory.

Match Notes

  • Entsminger scored a career-high six goals, while Roberts added a hat trick and an assist in the win.
  • Hacker tallied a pair of goals and three assists for a five-point performance, while Petersheim, Faith Bartos, Madeline Magill and Allison Burris also scored in the victory. Burris and Petersheim each added an assist, as well.
  • Magill picked up three ground balls, while Entsminger and Caris Cianelli each caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Roberts grabbed seven draw controls, while Petersheim snagged four daws.
  • Rachael Robinson stopped nine shots in all 60 minutes and also picked up three ground balls.
  • Bridgewater held a 39-24 edge in shots.

Up Next

  • The Eagles return to action on Thursday, April 28, as they close out the regular season by hosting No. 5 Washington and Lee. The contest is set to begin at 7 pm at the Jopson Athletic Complex.
