Men's Lax Stung by Yellow Jackets

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team dropped its first home contest of the season in an 18-11 loss in ODAC play to Randolph-Macon on Saturday evening.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 11, Randolph-Macon 18
  • Records: Bridgewater 7-4, 2-2 ODAC; Randolph-Macon 6-4, 2-1 ODAC

How It Happened

  • The Eagles got off to a quick start when Connor McLean found a pass from Trevor McClelland to get the first goal of the contest. Less than a minute later, Lucas Johnson doubled the lead to 2-0.
  • The Yellow Jackets rebounded by tallying three unanswered goals to close out the first quarter holding on to a 3-2 lead.
  • R-MC stretched its goal run to five straight to open the second quarter. Hunter Becker stopped the run to reset the score at 5-3 in favor of the vistors.
  • The two sides alternated goals before a pair of scores from R-MC extended the lead to 8-4  before Chris Martel and McClelland cut the lead down to 8-6. The Yellow Jackets got one more before the half to go into the break ahead 9-6.
  • Martel scored again to start off the third quarter, but the Yellow Jackets got it back less than a minute later. Johnson netted his second of the game with 5:46 left in the third to lower the deficit to 10-8, but the vistors mounted a five-goal run to take a commanding 16-8 lead.
  • Three-straight goals from Martel, including a pair of man-up scores, cut the lead down to five goals, but that was as close as the Eagles got as Randolph-Macon held on for an 18-11 final.

Match Notes

  • Martel led the game with five goals and he also picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover.
  • Johnson netted a pair, while McLean, Hayden Gourley and McClelland all recorded a goal and an assist and three ground balls.
  • Hunter Becker rounded out the scorers.
  • Gabriel Alexander led the way with eight ground balls, while Grayson Rech picked up three.
  • Ryan Addison led the game with five caused turnovers.
  • Robbie Noyes made 10 saves in the loss.
  • Randolph-Macon held a 41-36 advantage in shots and a 41-35 advantage in ground balls.
