HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College baseball team displayed its offensive firepower on Tuesday taking down Eastern Mennonite 17-9 in conference action.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 17, Eastern Mennonite – 9
  • Records: Bridgewater (20-10, 7-5 ODAC); Eastern Mennonite (9-19, 5-10 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The game started fast for the Eagles as they would score three times in the first inning. Jacob Grabeel walked, and Jeffrey Snider got on base on a single, and Kevin Navedo would drive in Grabeel on a single through the left side. Hunter Clever followed that up with another single that drove in Snider, and Brandan Hartman drove in Navedo on a ground out to the shortstop.
  • The Royals posted two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame to make it 3-2 Eagles after one inning of play.
  • BC continued where they left off in the second inning scoring four more runs. Camden Herron got on base on a single to center field, Jarret Biesecker would walk to put runners on first and second and Grabeel singled to drive in Herron. Navedo walked and Clever earned two more RBIs on a base hit through the left side. Hartman drew a walk to load the bases, and Brett Tharp followed that up drawing a walk of his own with Navedo scoring on the play.
  • In the bottom half of the second, EMU scored once making the score 7-4 after two innings.
  • BC scored two more in the third and fourth inning. After Grabeel was hit by a pitch in the third, Snider hit a two-run home run adding to the Eagles lead. In the fourth, Hartman walked, and Tharp doubled to left center, Tristan Gordon singled to left field and drove them both in adding on to the big lead. The Eagles now led 11-6 after four innings with the Royals tacking on two more in the bottom half of the frame.
  • Bridgewater again scored four times in the fifth. Snider got the inning started with a double as he would eventually score on an error that put Clever on base. After Hartman and Tharp walked, Gordon's two RBI single cleared the bases putting the team up 15-6 after five innings.
  • RBIs from Snider in the sixth and Hartman in the ninth ended the scoring for the Eagles with the final score 17-9.

 Match Notes

  • James Swart started on the mound for Bridgewater and went two innings with three strikeouts. Nick Griffin followed with 2.2 innings with another three strikeouts. Tucker Hrasky pitched 4.1 innings striking out 10 and earned the win, he's 3-0 on the year.
  • Snider went 4-6 with four RBIs and scored four runs.
  • Gordon drove in four runs on two hits.

Up Next

  • The Eagles will be back in action Thursday, April 14 for a non-conference game against Christopher Newport. Action is set for 4 p.m.
