Eagles Rally to Defeat Mary Washington

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College baseball team stormed from behind to defeat Mary Washington in a late game thriller winning 7-6 on Wednesday evening.

The Basics

How It Happened

  • The Eagles scored first in the second inning on an RBI single from Timothy Hopson, Brett Tharp scored on the play.
  • Kevin Navedo walked with the bases loaded in the third inning to put the Eagles up 2-0.
  • Mary Washington scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead 3-2.
  • UMW tacked on one more in the fifth and sixth to stretch its lead to 5-2.
  • After a big momentum change, Bridgewater began its comeback in the sixth inning. Navedo reached on an error that allowed Jarret Biesecker and Camden Herron to score to put the Eagles in business down just one run.
  • Hunter Clever reached on another error that Jeffrey Snider scored on to tie the game.
  • The team regained the lead on an attempted throw down to first from the catcher that went over the first basemen's head that Navedo scored on from third base, the Eagles were now up one.
  • Mary Washington tied it at seven on an RBI single in the top half of of seventh inning.
  • In the eighth, Tharp was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Biesecker scored on the play scoring his second run of the day to put BC up 7-6 after eight innings.
  • Tharp then came in for the ninth to close out the game and earn his seventh save of the season.
