BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team got back on the winning track after downing Chatham, 23-5, at Jopson Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Basics

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater quickly jumped out to an early advantage after Hunter Becker opened the scoring less than a minute into the game.
  • The Eagles laid it on early and often as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead before the end of the first quarter, including a score from Eddie Ross IV that was his first collegiate score.
  • BC held off the Cougars until nearly halftime as Justin Cook scored with 3:49 left in the stanza.
  • Depsite a pair of goals from Chatham, the Eagles moved on to a 15-2 advantage at halftime.
  • Bryce Burgit, Ryan Ashpole and Hayden Gourley all recorded goals in the second half that served as all of their first goals of the season on the way to a 23-5 victory.

Match Notes

  • Martel led all scorers with six goals and an assist to go along with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Martel continues to lead the ODAC in scoring with 20 goals and 22 points.
  • Becker also posted a hat trick to go with three assists to finish the day with six points. He added three ground balls and also caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Grant Nyland, Trevor McClelland and Drew Huber each scored a pair of goals, while Huber also added an assist.
  • Lucas Johnson returned to the scoresheet with a goal and two assists.
  • Connor McLean scored twice and added one helper for a three-point performance, while Nick Richmond picked up his first collegiate point on an assist
  • Gabriel Alexander went 9-for-17 in faceoffs with seven ground balls, while Samuel Sharps went 10-for-14 from the spot.
  • Robbie Noyes started in the cage and made nine saves, allowing just a pair of goals. Tyler Carney entered to start the second half and played nearly 22 minutes before Carter Strother got his first collegiate action for the remaining eight and a half minutes of game time.
  • Bridgewater, whom is amongst national leaders in shots per game, tallied 50 shots and picked up 52 ground balls as a team.
  • The Eagles went 3-for-5 in man-up situations.

  • The Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 5, as they travel to Mary Washington for another nonconference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 3:30 pm in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
