Bridgewater Upended by Juniata

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell to Juniata 19-10 in nonconference action at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Tuesday evening.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 10, Juniata 19
  • Records: Bridgewater 3-4; Juniata 4-1

How It Happened

  • Juniata jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead inside the first three minutes of the game.
  • Ashley Venit broke the ice for the Eagles before Kaity Petersheim added another goal to set the score at 4-2 after one period.
  • Petersheim made it a one-goal game to start off the second quarter, but Juniata struck for back-to-back goals to assume a 6-3 lead.
  • Lauren Roberts scored and then added an assist on Venit's second goal of the contest to bring the Eagles within one goal again. Juniata scored with 2:53 left on the scoreboard to push the visitors ahead 7-5 at halftime.
  • Three-straight goals for JC made it a 10-5 game, but BC fought back for two more goals, including one from Madeline Magill. The visitors scored five more to take a 16-7 lead into the final quarter.
  • Magill, Roberts and Petersheim all scored to bring the game to 16-10, but Juniata was able to tack on three unanswered scores to clinch a 19-10 win.

Match Notes

  • Petersheim and Roberts each recorded hat tricks, while Magill and Venit each finished with two goals. 
  • Roberts and Venit both finished the day with two assists.
  • Adding to her statline, Roberts led the team with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Julia Frick posted four caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls, while Melissa Wilson and Kelli Mullen both grabbed four ground balls on the defensive side of the field. 
  • Rachael Robinson stopped 12 shots, while the Juniata goalie Chloe Gerhard made six saves in the win.
  • As a team, Juniata outshot the home side 40-23, while holding a 28-24 edge in ground balls.

  • The Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 19, for a nonconference tilt at Marymount. The game is slated to begin at 1 pm.
