Baseball Splits On Day Three of Spring Break Trip

ORANGE, Ca. – The Bridgewater College baseball team played two games today on day three of their spring break trip, losing to Chapman and beating Redlands.

 Game One

 The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 1, Chapman – 6
  • Records: Bridgewater (7-4); Chapman (4-3)

 How It Happened

  • The Panthers took a 1-0 in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Davis Mieliwocki.
  • Bridgewater scored its only run of the game in the fourth on an RBI double from Kevin Navedo who drove in Jacob Grabeel.
  • Chapman added two more in the fourth and put the dagger in BC with a bases clearing three-run double from Mieliwocki in the eighth to make it 6-1.

Game Two

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 9, Redlands – 4
  • Records: Bridgewater (8-4); Redlands (6-3, 2-1)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles scored in the top of the second on a sac fly from Collin Reid. In the fourth, Jeffrey Snider scored on a single down the left field line from Brandan Hartman.
  • Timothy Hopson singled through the left side in the fourth, driving in Hartman to make it 3-0.
  • BC added three more in the fifth to stretch its lead to 6-0. Jacob Grabeel scored on a wild pitch, Kevin Navedo drove in a run on a sac fly and Reid and Hartman scored on a Brett Tharp triple to make the score 7-0.
  • Redlands scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double from Jared Anderson and RBI single from Max Smyley.
  • The Eagles stretched their lead to 8-2 in the eighth with Tharp scoring on a wild pitch.
  • In the bottom half of the frame, the Bulldogs narrowed the Eagles lead to four scoring two runs to make it 8-4.
  • Bridgewater tacked on another run in the ninth on a Navedo homer.

Match Notes

  • Reid Long went six strong giving up only two runs and striking out eight.
  • Navedo and Tharp each had two RBIs.
  • Tharp also went 1-3 with the two RBI's, a run scored and pitched one shutdown inning in the ninth.

Up Next

  • The Eagles will be back for one more game in California tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. EST vs. Whittier.
