Eagles Explode for 26 Runs Against Caltech

PASADENA, Ca. – The Bridgewater College baseball team beat Caltech this afternoon, 26-7. This is the programs' most runs scored since beating Penn College 25-0 in 2018.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater – 26, Caltech – 7
  • Records: Bridgewater (7-3); Caltech (2-10)

 How It Happened

  • The Eagles came out with swinging in this contest. In the first, Jeffrey Snider tripled to right center field driving in two runs. Later in the inning, Kevin Navedo drove in another run for BC on an RBI double to left field. Bridgewater finished the first with a 4-0 lead, when Navedo scored on an error by the catcher.
  • The bats went back to work in the second inning. Timothy Hopson scored on an error and Navedo drove in two more runs on homer to left field.
  • The game blew wide open in the third inning. After Caltech battled back for two runs, the Eagles would score eight in the third. Hopson launched an RBI double scoring Brandan Hartman and Brett Tharp. Jarret Biesecker then drove in another run on an RBI single, followed up Jacob Grabeel and Snider each with RBI singles. Hunter Clever joined the RBI club after a bases loaded walk and following him was Hartman, driving in another run on a sac fly. The Eagles finished out their eight-run inning with Navedo scoring on a wild pitch, the score 15-2.
  • Jack Warren got a couple back for Caltech with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third.
  • BC got right back to work in the fifth scoring six runs after only getting one hit in the fourth. A pair of RBI doubles from Hopson and Biesecker added to the lead, making it 17-4. After that, Snider got on base again on an error and two runs scored on the play. Navedo and Clever finished off the fifth with hits driving in one run each making the score 21-4.
  • In the bottom half the inning, the Beavers scored three to inch closer to being back in the game.
  • Hopson scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, and in the seventh a pair of back-to-back doubles from Clever and Hartman stretched the lead to 17. The Eagles would finish the game scoring two more runs on a bases loaded walk from Hopson and Luke Olimpio driving in Tharp on a fielder's choice.

Match Notes

  • Snider drove in five runs on two hits while Hopson drove in four runs on two hits and Clever drove in three.
  • Navedo went 4-5 with four RBIs.
  • Grabeel, Hartman and Biesecker each went 3-5 and contributed with RBIs.
  • Holdyn Ambrose earned the win bringing his record to 2-0.
