BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the 2022 season with a 15-7 victory against Goucher at Jopson Athletic Complex on Friday night.

How It Happened

• Bridgewater scored the game's first goal just 30 seconds into the contest as Madeline Magill was fed a pass by Kaity Petersheim, 1-0.
• Goucher responded with a score from Julia Gazzola two minutes later, but the Eagles regained the lead with nine minutes remaining in the first off a goal from Allison Burris. The Eagles held the lead for the remainder of the contest. 
• Ashley Venit tallied a goal while down to push the lead to 3-1 before the Eagles pulled away to a 5-2 advantage after the first quarter.
• In the second quarter, Jenna Entsminger recorded back-to-back scores with helpers from Aunnie Hacker both times, and Magill scored her second of the game to push the Eagles ahead by six with 12 minutes left in the first half. BC led 8-3 going into the break.
• Lauren Roberts opened the scoring in the second half off a free position shot less than two minutes into play before Gazzola added her third and fourth goals of the game to take the score to 10-5 with six minutes left on the clock.
• Faith Bartos recorded her first career goal before the Eagles closed out the third quarter with a 12-5 advantage before holding on to a 15-7 victory.

Match Notes

• Allison Burris, Magill and Roberts each recorded hat tricks with Burris and Roberts each tallying assists to finish with four points each.
• Hacker finished with three assists to lead the team.
• Gazzola led all scorers with five of the seven scores for the visiting side, while Emily Flinn pitched in all four assists for Goucher.
• Julia Frick picked up a team-high four ground balls and also caused three turnovers, while Annika Benson also grabbed three ground balls and three caused turnovers. 
• Grace Pietro recorded five draw controls, while Roberts added three to her tally.
• Goalkeeper Rachael Robinson stopped four shots on target in her first collegiate win, and also picked up four ground balls and picked off three passed in the victory.
• The win serves as head coach Ashley Hughes first win with the Eagles in her first season at the helm of the program.
