Box Score FERRUM, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team opened its season with a convincing 9-0 win over Ferrum on Friday.
The Eagles picked up a sweep in doubles with 8-1 wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. Canon Secord and Matthew Leonard teamed up for the win in the No. 1 slot and Matthew Gordon with Noah Hughes teamed up for the No. 3 slot. The No. 2 slot of Gabe Elder and Mark Gordon won 8-3.
Matthew Gordon, a senior, was first off in singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 3 slot. Fellow senior Secord was also dominant with a 6-0, 6-0 win of his own to clinch the match at the No. 1 spot.
Leyton Pullin joined the 6-0, 6-0 party with a win at the No. 6 slot.
BC moves to 1-0 on the year and 1-0 in ODAC play.
The men will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 22 as they travel to nearby Mary Baldwin for a match against the Fighting Squirrels. Start time is 3:00 p.m.
