Balanced Offense Brings Eagles Back to Win Column

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Nine players contributed at least five points in Bridgewater College women's basketball 77-39 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday night in Nininger Hall.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 77, Virginia Wesleyan 39
  • Records: Bridgewater (9-11, 6-7 ODAC), Virginia Wesleyan (3-19, 0-15 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • The Eagles stormed out to an early 5-0 lead behind a three pointer from Julia Williams and cutting layup by Jaden Alsberry. Bridgewater extended the advantage to 12-6 before a Marlins three brought Virginia Wesleyan within three points at 12-9. That would be the closest the Marlins would come to catching the Eagles all night as India Dailey responded with a three pointer of her own to bring the Bridgewater lead back to 15-9
  • The Bridgewater offense exploded for their biggest quarter in the second racking up 25 points while holding the Marlins to 26.3 shooting percentage from the field. The Eagles also nearly doubled the Marlins rebound total, grabbing 14 boards compared to the visitors eight as they entered halftime up 42-21
  • Dailey paced the Eagles with seven third quarter buckets while Julia Williams dished out three assists in the quarter to push the Bridgewater lead to 64-34 at the end of the frame
  • Melanie Pick picked up a big and-one in the fourth quarter to put an exclamation point on the evening as the Eagles returned to the win column

Match Notes

  • Alsberry recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 16 rebounds
  • Nettles was right behind the sophomore with 11 points followed by Williams and Dailey with nine each, Reagan Maynard and Noelle Horton with seven, Rosemary Pierson and Mya Olmeda with six and Pick with five
  • Horton also grabbed nine rebounds while Williams totaled five assists
  • Bridgewater dominated the glass, controlling 66 rebounds compared to Virginia Wesleyan's 29
