How It Happened
- Virginia Wesleyan had four chances early with four corner kicks in a two minute span but totaled no shots off of the attempts. Bridgewater got the first shot of the game in the eighth minute when Trevon Phillips missed his shot wide of the crease. Matthew Shelor put one on frame in the tenth minute but Griffin Potter made the save for the Marlins.
- In the 29th minute the Marlins broke the scoreless tie. Ryan Taing found Everett McCloskey for VWU on the first shot on frame by the Marlins for the score to make it 1-0.
- BC had chances in the closing stages of the first half totaling three shots in the final seven minutes but no goals on the board.
- Bridgewater applied early pressure in the second half as the Eagles rallied off four shots in the opening ten minutes of the half but still trailed. Finally, in the 69th minute the seal broke. Phillips flicked the ball over his head where Vincent Marra streaked in and volleyed the ball into the back of the net to knot the game at 1-1. Matthew Shelor nearly made it two goals in under a minute but Potter turned his shot aside.
- Thomas Vik got off a shot in the 85th minute but yet again otter came up with a huge stop. The Marlins took the momentum the other way and Nate Mitchell found the back of the net with just over 90 seconds to play to give VWU the win 2-1.
Match Notes
- Vik led all players with five shots in the game and found the crease once. Shelor shot four times but Potter denied all four chances.
- Potter had a busy night in goal making six saves for the Marlins. Tyler Deutsch added two for BC.
- Despite the scoreline, Bridgewater outshot Virginia Wesleyan 20-14 including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Marlins held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks on the night.
- Marra's goal today was the first of his career as the junior has only tallied 10 shots in his entire time at BC.
