LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lauren Roberts became the second Eagle rookie to record a nine-point game this season, as the Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team beat Randolph 20-5 on Friday.
Roberts racked up six goals and three assists, with her nine points equaling the third-best single game mark in program history- a total also matched by classmate Aunnie Hacker earlier this year vs. Eastern Mennonite. She also tied for the team lead with two caused turnovers.
Jodie Welsh totaled three goals, three assists and a team-high five draw controls. Allison Burris had a seven-point day with three goals and four assists.
The game was tied 3-3 after 11 minutes, at which point Bridgewater ran off 14 straight goals.
Goals from Welsh and Burris were followed by two from Roberts. After tallies from Kaity Petersheim, Olivia Carson and Ashley Venit, Roberts had another two-goal spurt to make it 12-3 Eagles.
Petersheim and Welsh each scored late in the first half and early in the second, sandwiching yet another Roberts tally, as the Eagles did not concede a goal for a stretch of almost 37 minutes.
The Eagles ended the game with a pair of man-up goals from sophomore Emily Dell- the first two points of her career. Both were assisted by Welsh.
Bridgewater improves to 2-5, 2-3 ODAC and will host a pair of conference games next week- Wednesday vs. Virginia Wesleyan and Saturday vs. Ferrum.
