Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team ran off five unanswered goals in a stretch of under four and a half minutes, in a 21-8 loss to #24 Lynchburg.
Kaity Petersheim started that second half run with an eight-meter goal, cutting back behind the crashing defender and putting a shot over the goalie and in.
Jodie Welsh then picked up a ground ball and led a quick counterattack that ended in an Allison Burris goal. Lauren Roberts won the next draw control and Ashley Venit scored from a tight angle after rolling from behind the cage.
Madeline Magill scored the next time down the field to make it 14-5 Lynchburg. Roberts won another draw control and fed Welsh for a fifth straight just 13 seconds later.
Roberts added two consecutive eight meter goals later in the second half and finished with a hat trick, one assist, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Welsh totaled seven draw controls, and Mikaela Brooks made 17 saves in the cage for Bridgewater.
The Eagles had a number of close chances in the first half that led to Lynchburg goals at the other end. Early on, Aunnie Hacker made a great pass to Magill but Julia Broughton came up with a point blank stop.
Brooks made two saves on a possession but the Hornets forced a turnover on the clear, leading to a Lynchburg goal and a 7-0 scoreline.
Broughton then made three saves on the same possession, including a great save on Welsh at the right doorstep. The Hornets struck again at the other end for an 8-0 lead.
Roberts got Bridgewater on the board right off a first half draw control, waiting for an opening and then bursting past a defender to get to the cage.
Bridgewater (1-4, 1-3 ODAC) will travel to Shenandoah on Wednesday evening for a non-conference matchup.
